Wallaby rescued from life of trauma, abuse now thriving at Calgary adventure park

CALGARY

He’s come a long way from when Cobb’s owner Mike Sheppard took him from the backyard of a drug house two years ago.
When Sheppard took the animal for medical help, the vet said his injuries showed evidence of a very traumatic past possibly as a bait animal in dog fighting.
“He had all these bumps on his neck, and his hind was shaved. And the bumps she said is definitely dogs. It s dog bites,” said Shepard. ....

Gender gap: Women still fall short of men in the workforce and health care system

CALGARY
Recent studies show the gender gap in various sectors and institutions is still prevalent. Whether it’s in the workforce or the health care system, men make up the majority or the institutions are still very much geared towards supporting them.
An ATB financial report shows that in the workforce in this province, the percentage of women participating in the workforce is still lower than men, with women at 63 per cent and men at 74 per cent. The study also found women are less likely than men to be self-employed or to work in the private sector.
Filomena May, who has been a wealth advisor in Calgary for 18 years, said when she started out in the industry, there were only five per cent of women in the field. ....

6 face charges after weapons and drugs seized from property outside Carstairs, Alta.

The estimated value of the seized drugs is $160,000.
Our information suggested these suspects were trafficking drugs in the region, and also supplying methamphetamine and fentanyl toward Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, said Staff Sgt. Kelsey Fraser of ALERT Medicine Hat in a statement.
Four residents of Didsbury were arrested and charged in connection with the investigation. Two residents of Medicine Hat were later arrested in Nanton.
Three people 35-year-old Ryan Riley and 32-year-old Lori Ehrler of Medicine Hat, and 53-year-old Edward Nicholson of Didsbury have been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
Nicholson also faces 11 firearms-related offences and a charge of possession of proceeds of crime. ....

Calgary massage therapist found guilty of sexually assaulting patients

CALGARY
A Calgary massage therapist who was accused of 16 charges of sexual assault has been found guilty of 11.
Dennis Baltazar sexually assaulted male clients during appointments that occurred between October 2017 and September 2018. The court heard the assaults took place during treatments at Movement Sports Clinic in the 100 block of Ninth Avenue S.W. as well as at another location.
Justice W.T. De Wit acquitted the therapist on the remaining five charges citing reasonable doubt.
The next court appearance for Baltazar is set for Apr. 16 when a date will be determined for sentencing.
