Wild skating season in Banff National Park frequently sees Albertans flock to frozen lakes, such as in this file photo at Two Jack Lake. This weekend, four skaters fell through the ice at Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park.
Parks Canada is warning skaters who take to frozen lakes to monitor lake thickness very carefully after four skaters fell through the ice at Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park over a two-day period.
According to the government agency, three of the skaters were able to self-rescue, while one required a rescue response. ....

Staff and residents of long-term care units at the Canmore General Hospital and Banff Mineral Springs Hospital received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine after it arrived in the Bow Valley on Jan. 6.

Healthcare teams at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital continue to be challenged by the ongoing demands of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Staff and Physicians are coping well; the hospital processes for COVID are becoming a way of life. We have been very fortunate that we have been able to maintain diligence with staff and patient screening and not had an outbreak, which directly correlates to our team’s dedication,” said Margie Smith with Covenant Health Banff Mineral Springs Hospital.
