Update at 5:25 p.m.: After inquiries by Clarke Broadcasting to Tuolumne County Sheriff’s officials regarding the body found in Yosemite National Park, spokesperson Deputy Nicco Sandelin revealed, “We don’t have a positive identification on the remains.” He also relayed that an autopsy has not yet been performed, so no cause of death has not been determined. Identification like dental records, DNA and fingerprints could take several weeks. However, in the National Park Services statement detailed below, and available here, it does identify the body as Youngblom saying it was “discovered in LeConte Falls on June 25th.” ....

James Jerome Youngblom, a Cal State Stanislaus biology professor admired for his research in molecular genetics, died while hiking alone in Yosemite National Park. He was 64.
Youngblom was hiking from White Wolf to the Glen Aulin trailhead, according to park officials. His body was discovered in LeConte Falls on June 25.
The genetics professor taught at the university for nearly 31 years and served as chair of the Department of Biological Sciences. He taught genetic biotechnology courses and led undergraduate student research programs.
Youngblom was “a great department chair” and “one of the kindest people I’ve known,” David Evans, dean of the College of Science at Cal State Stanislaus, said in a statement. “He loved his job and worked incredibly hard. His focus was always on students. Our hearts go out to all [his] friends and family at this difficult time.” ....

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) â The body of a longtime Northern California university professor was found last week in Yosemite National Park, and park officials are asking anyone who may have seen him at the park to call investigators.
The statement did not disclose details on how Youngblom died. Yosemite Park officials and the Tuolumne County Sheriffâs Office did not immediately return email and phone messages seeking more information.
Anyone who may have seen Youngblom in the area of White Wolf, Pate Valley, or the Grand Canyon of The Tuolumne between June 22 and June 25 should contact the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch, the statement said. ....

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. - The body of a longtime Northern California university professor was found last week in Yosemite National Park, and park officials are asking anyone who may have seen him at the park to call investigators.
James Youngblom, 64, had been hiking alone. His body was found on June 25, the National Park Service said in a statement Wednesday.
The statement did not disclose details on how Youngblom died. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Nico Sandelin said an autopsy has not yet been completed. Park spokesman Scott Gediman provided no other information, citing an ongoing investigation. ....
