Answering questions about the 17-game season
IF you hadn’t heard, the NFL is expanding the regular season to 17 games
For the first time in 43 years, the NFL is expanding its regular season.
League owners voted this week to approve a 17-game regular season schedule starting with the 2021 season, while reducing the preseason to three games. It’s news of a sort, but it had been widely anticipated. It was made possible through the negotiation of the latest CBA agreement, which was ratified just about a year ago, and it was given financial impetus by the financial impact of COVID-19 on the league revenues in 2020. While many analysts and owners would argue that the owners could have unilaterally expanded the regular season without agreement from the players, any contentious labor battles or legal issues were avoided by including the provision for the expanded season in the most recent CBA.
Dalvin Tomlinson’s Contract Details
Void Years and their Salary Cap Impact
Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports
Interesting details are coming out about the Dalvin Tomlinson contract the Vikings agreed to late on Monday. I always find cap management interesting because I am a numbers nerd. I don’t remember seeing this much in the past, but void years were added to Tomlinson’s deal. I believe this is the first time the Vikings have used this contract structure.
Tomlinson’s deal:
$0.5M per year in potential sack incentives to make the potential total $22.0M
Cash by Year:
2022: $5.0 Cash = $0.1M Workout Bonus + $4.9M Base Salary

2 Weeks Before FA Offseason Plan By IronWarrior222 on Mar 3, 2021, 11:37pm CST +
2 Weeks from now, the Free agency period will officially begin. With Rudolph being cut, that marks our first real move this off-season.
That move currently has us at $5,077,281 over the cap, according to OTC, however I don t know if they would know if it were a Post-Jun1st designation or not. If it is, it d be closer to just $2 mil, but for now, we ll have to go off of what OTC has allotted for us.
Now, something I hadn t done in the other plans is the Tenders for our RFA s. Of them, we have three (and 1 ERFA in Chris Jones). Those three players are Mike Boone, Ifeadi Odenigbo, and Chad Beebe. Regardless of how you feel about these players, I doubt the FO would let any of them simply walk away, especially Odenigbo. The more likely events are that we will put a 2nd round tender on Odenigbo and original round tenders on Boone and Beebe.
With the most recent Vikings development being Reiff getting his $1 million incentive that the team tried it's damnedest to make sure he didn't get last season over, We are now $8.7 million over.
