Budget carrier is first airline from UAE to start flights to Albania
Flydubai, the Dubai-based airline, has announced the start of flights to Tirana, the capital of Albania, becoming the first UAE-based airline to offer direct flights on this route.
The airline will operate two flights a week between Dubai International (DXB) and Tirana International Airport (TIA) from 28 March.
Emirates will codeshare on this route.
Flights from Terminal 3, Dubai International (DXB) to Tirana International Airport (TIA) will operate on Thursdays and Sundays and the service commences from 28 March.
Return Business Class fares from DXB to TIA start from Dh8,000 and Economy Class fares start from Dh2,000. Return Business Class fares from TIA to DXB start from 1,800 euros (Dh7,864) and Economy Class fares start from 420 euros. ....

Canadian plane maker De Havilland wins $43 mn claim against SpiceJet


A UK high court has ruled in favour of Canadian aircraft manufacturer De Havilland in a contractual dispute with SpiceJet, saying that it is entitled to recover $42.9 million in liquidated damages from the airline.
The court gave this ruling after De Havilland sued SpiceJet for its failure to make pre-delivery payments for 14 Q-400 aircraft on order.
The aircraft manufacturer had served notice for termination of the purchase agreement and claimed $ 42.9 million in liquidated damages.
In a recent judgment, the High Court of Justice in the UK upheld the aircraft manufacturer’s claim that SpiceJet did not abide by terms of contract. The court also said De Havilland is entitled to claim $ 42.9 million in liquidated damages from the airline. ....

India's domestic air passenger traffic down 40% to 7.7 million in Jan


|ndia s domestic air passenger traffic declined around 40 per cent to 7.7 million in January 2021 over the year-ago period as the pandemic continues to hit air travel demand, as per the monthly traffic data released by the aviation regulator, DGCA on Thursday.
The total number of passengers flown by the Indian carriers on domestic routes in January 2020 was 10.2 million.
The passenger load factor, a measure to assess how much of an airline s passenger carrying capacity has been utilised, during the previous month has shown a declining trend compared to December primarily due to the tourist season, the DGCA said.
The load factor of six major domestic airlines IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India, GoAir, Vistara and AirAsia India stood between 70 per cent and 64.9 per cent in January, as per data. ....

Ibis to add over 500 more keys by 2022, sees normal revenues next year


The lifestyle focused mid-segment hotel chain Ibis, a part of the French hospitality major Accor Group, will add over 500 keys across four properties, taking total inventory to over 4,000 by 2022.
While Ibis, since its entry in 2008, operates 3,500 rooms across 19 properties (Ibis & Ibis Styles hotels) spanning 13 cities, its parent Accor operates over 9,500 rooms spread across 51 properties under 10 brands across 21 cities in joint venture with Interglobe Hotels, an arm of holding company of budget carrier Indigo since the past 14 years.
The expansion is focused on three cities Mumbai, Bengaluru and Goa which are already functioning almost at pre-pandemic levels, though the revenue normalisation may take a quarter or two, Sylvain Laroche, director of operations, at Ibis India told PTI. ....
