Last summer, well…It just wasn’t summer, right? Sure we went on hikes, longer than usual walks, dusted off the bike to pedal around empty streets and generally got away from our locked-down lives as best we could, but, meh. We’re talking about summer all caps SUMMER with festivals, parades, patios and un- bridled, unfettered, just-plain goofing off. And while not everything will be back in full form, there are rumors and rumblings of a proper Salt Lake Summer about to come out of hibernation and roar. As we, hopefully, tentatively, carefully, nervously look forward with our bleary eyes toward SLC’s summer glories, we find ourselves with a little bit of that old spring swing in our step. Wasatch Mountain Film Festival Over the past year, folks have been taking every chance possible to get outside and enjoy the unique opportunities afforded to us by the Utah landscape. Perhaps that s given us all a deeper appreciation for outdoors life in Utah. And we ve also developed a deeper appreciation for the ability of streaming technology to let us enjoy movies at a time when theaters weren t the safest places to be. Just like the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and many other film festivals nationwide, the 2021 Wasatch Mountain Film Festival will be offering a virtual presentation. But while we all watch the films in our homes, the stories they share will give us even more incentive to get out and enjoy the mountains around us. This year s program showcases 69 films from around the world, representing both features and shorts, celebrating the mission of bringing mountain culture and arts together. The programming covers topics ranging from environmental advocacy to s ....
| Updated: 3:01 p.m. It might not look like a “normal” summer with fewer kids and extra social distancing but Utah providers say they expect more programs to be available this year for children after schools let out. This time last year, there were too many uncertainties during the COVID-19 pandemic for Red Butte Garden to host its annual camp. But now, the staff is preparing to welcome back a limited number of campers in June. “The demand is extremely high,” said Eddy Dawson, director of programs at the Salt Lake City botanical garden and arboretum. Most of their spots filled up within 45 minutes of going on sale earlier this month. ....
