Chancellor Joe May announced he is retiring in late 2022, allowing the school to begin preparing its transition.
Dallas College Chancellor Joe May announced on Friday he is retiring from his position in 2022, a year before his contract expires. During his tenure, the network of schools merged its seven colleges into one. He was also heavily involved in the development of the Dallas County Promise, a program that helps cover the costs of college for 57 area high school students.(Ben Torres / Special Contributor)

More students are choosing work over school as the pandemic strains finances.
The Dallas County Promise, a program that helps put Dallas students through college for free, helped students like Crystal Garza, 19, figure out whether she wanted to go to community college or a four-year university. But the program is struggling as the number of students that take its pledge and enroll in college drop during the pandemic.(Lawrence Jenkins )
