Navjot Singh Sidhu pitches for 300 units of free power in Punjab


Toeing Aam Aadmi Party national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal s mantra to woo the people in Punjab by announcing pre-poll sops of free and subsidised electricity, Congress leader and former state minister Navjot Sidhu on Sunday advocated for a 24-hour supply with no power cuts and free power up to 300 units.
Punjab already provides Rs 9,000 crore subsidy but we must do more for domestic and industrial consumer giving power at Rs 3-5 per unit instead of surcharge inflated Rs 10-12 per unit, along 24-hour supply with no power cuts and free power (up to 300 units), Sidhu said in a tweet, adding, It is definitely achievable. ....

Amarjit Singh Sidhu, aka Jeeti Sidhu, brother of Punjab Cabinet Minister and local MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu, was elected the Mayor at the first General House meeting of the Mohali Municipal Corporation held at MC Bhawan here today.
Amarjit Sidhu (48) will hold the post for two and a half years. Punjab Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa was present at the meeting as an observer.
Amrik Singh Somal and Kuljit Singh Bedi were elected the Senior Deputy Mayor and the Deputy Mayor, respectively. Somal, a two-time councillor, had defeated former Mayor Kulwant Singh in the elections held on February 14. ....

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], March 13 (ANI): Considering the rising number of unemployed registered pharmacists in Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh s government has decided to provide self-employment to unemployed youth by making changes in the policy for the grant of drugs licenses.
According to an official release, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr Balbir Singh Sidhu on Friday said that the registered pharmacists in the state with certain experience can now apply for grant of drugs license to open chemist shops in rural and urban areas under the amended policy. ....

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], January 2 (ANI): Punjab Government has decided to increase the freedom fighter pension from Rs 7,500 per month to Rs 9,400 per month from April 1, 2021.
Asserting that the Punjab government is committed to the welfare of the freedom fighters of Punjab and their legal heirs, Punjab Cabinet Minister, Om Parkash Soni said: The state government has decided to increase the freedom fighter pension from Rs 7,500 per month to Rs 9,400 per month w.e.f 01-04-2021.
Soni said that the freedom fighters and their legal heirs (sons/ daughters/ grandsons /grand-daughters) have been provided free bus travel facility in roadways/ Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) buses w.e.f 07-12-2020. ....
