QC doubles bike lane network Philippine Information Agency 23 May 2021, 20:38 GMT+10 CALOOCAN CITY, May 23 (PIA) From the previous 55 kilometers, the Quezon City Government has almost doubled its bike lane network to 93 kilometers. On Saturday, May 22, the city inaugurated the expanded bike lane together with local and national government officials and bicycle riding organizations. Mayor Joy Belmonte spearheaded the bike lanes inauguration, together with Vice Mayor Gian Sotto, Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Benjamin Abalos, and Department of Transportation Assistant Secretary for Road Transport Mark Steven Pastor. Jansen Romero/MANILA BULLETIN Under the program, which is in line with the city’s Ordinance no. 2988-2020, the Green Transport Office – Bicycle and Active Transport Section shall initiate programs that will maintain all pertinent information on cyclists and active transport users for the purpose of ensuring the continuous improvement of the safe cycling and active transport program. Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) head Ret. Brig. Gen. Elmo San Diego said the program will also help cyclists locate their bikes in case of loss or theft and assist them in the event of an accident. “The importance of this bike registration program is to help our bikers in case their bicycles cannot be located or are stolen,” San Diego said. ....
