Western to Reopen Campus for 2021 Fall Semester


ROCK SPRINGS Western Wyoming Community College looks forward to reopening in the Fall 2021 semester, without surveillance testing, housing restrictions on roommates, or face coverings. Social distancing may still be required in areas such as classrooms. 
The college follows directives from Governor Mark Gordon’s office and Sweetwater County’s Public Health Department when making COVID-19-related decisions. In light of the Governor’s new orders, the decreasing infection rates in the county, an increasing number of vaccinated people, and decreasing infection rate of Western’s students and employees, Western is cautiously optimistic that campus and student-life can resume as it did prior to the pandemic.  ....

Western Opens Back Up for In-Person Instruction for Spring 2021 Semester


ROCK SPRINGS Western Wyoming Community College opened for business on January 6, 2021. In order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus on campus, and continue in-person coursework, the College has implemented several new practices to its existing reopening plan.
Both Western and Green River Center are operating at a Level Two, under the COVID-19 reopening levels designated in the Fall of 2020. The levels are subject to change based on positive case volume, Governor Gordon’s orders, and other safety factors. 
The Spring Academic Calendar was revised and the first few weeks of the semester were conducted virtually. Students will return to campus for in-person coursework on February 15, 2021. The new calendar was designed to best meet learning outcomes and safety requirements. Note that there will not be a Spring Break holiday this year, due to the potential risk of virus spread as people tend to travel during that time. In doing this, Western hopes to have an ....

Western Cuts 15 Positions Amid Budget Crisis


ROCK SPRINGS The Western Wyoming Community College Board of Trustees approved the cutting of 15 full-time positions, including 13 occupied positions and two vacant positions. Three of these positions were in the math department.
During a special meeting tonight, Western’s trustees voted to approve the Fiscal Year 2021-22 budget reduction recommendations, which included the elimination of 15 full-time positions. These positions also includes paraprofessionals and administrative professionals as well. Those who are laid off will receive three months salary and up to six months of health insurance. They will also finish the remainder of their current contracts unless otherwise specified.
However, the vote was not unanimous. Trustee Carla Hester Croff voted against the motion stating the institution’s main purpose is to educate and that’s where the focus should be. ....
