Hungary Reaches 3 Million Vaccinations, Reopening Continues? Hungary has now reached 3 million vaccinations against the coronavirus, and despite infections and deaths remaining high, talks of further reopening are underway. The United Kingdom is also continuing its reopening, but its conditions appear much safer than the crisis in Hungary. It may be best for government officials to consider combatting the highest daily death rate per million in the world before lifting further restrictions. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán posted about the milestone to his Facebook page as soon as it was achieved. He had said in last week’s Kossuth Rádió broadcast that once Hungary reaches 3-3.5 million inoculated, “we can lift restrictions for those with immunity cards: hotels and cultural life can be reopened for them.” ....
Almost 250,000 Doses of Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine Delivered to Hungary Almost 250,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech were delivered to Hungary on Wednesday, around 50 percent more than the number of doses delivered during the last week of March, Pfizer’s Hungarian unit Pfizer Gyógyszerkereskedelmi said. With the latest shipment, the number of vaccine doses supplied by Pfizer to Hungary comes close to 1.7 million, they said. Pfizer has been delivering its Comirnaty vaccine to Hungary for more than two and a half months on schedule, on a weekly basis, they added. Medical Chamber Continues to Urge Media Access in Hungarian Hospitals The Hungarian Medical Chamber (MOK) shared a statement on Tuesday speaking in length about why it would be important for journalists to enter and report on Hungary’s hospitals. The Chamber has already voiced its support for the open request of 28 media outlets to enter hospitals, which was rejected by government officials. This statement, however, makes a detailed argument as to why the government should rethink its approach.
