The Bangladesh Shop Owners Association has sought permission to keep shops and shopping malls open 14 hours from 10am onwards in the interest of maintaining proper hygiene and social distancing for shoppers, shop owners, and employees.
In a letter on Sunday, the shop owners association requested the Prime Minister to allow shops and shopping malls to remain open till 12am midnight.
Helal Uddin Ahmed, president of the shop owners association, confirmed the matter to the reporter.
They argued that in the ongoing lockdown , markets and shops are open from 10am to 8pm, but many shoppers usually wrap up their shopping between 3pm and 5pm to have Iftar at home. Because all hotels and restaurants are closed, there is no opportunity to break one s fast away from home. ....

DHAKA, April 12,2021 (BSS) – The Centre for Policy Dialogue(CPD) today suggested for running uninterrupted economic activities even in limited scale with strict adherence to health safety guidelines and other rules, set by the by the government during the sharp surge of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) today arranged the virtual dialogue titled- “How to cope with the second wave of the Global pandemic Covid-19” , said a press release.
Executive director of CPD Dr Fahmida Khatun said the rate of infection has largely increased this year in comparison to last year. So everyone should be more careful about this and follow health guidelines strictly. ....

Protests against a week-long COVID-19 lockdown imposed in Bangladesh spread to 20 locations across the country on Tuesday, a day after police said one person was killed and others were injured when law enforcement officials fired at demonstrators in the south-central district of Faridpur.
Law enforcement officials were injured as well in Monday’s violence in Faridpur, district police chief Md. Alimuzzaman told reporters.
“Eight members of RAB and police were also injured in the incident,” Alimuzzaman said, referring to the elite anti-crime police unit Rapid Action Battalion.
Police and members of Ansar, a paramilitary auxiliary force, fired 588 shots and 32 tear gas shells during the clashes in Faridpur that began around 6 p.m. on Monday and lasted five hours, police told journalists. ....
