The Nepalese Association of Wiltshire organised a remembrance ceremony for the Duke of Edinburgh. The event was held in Buckhurst Community Centre on Saturday – the day of Prince Philip s funeral – and was led by chair Gyan Prasad Gurung. Only a handful of members were able to attend the ceremony because of Covid-19 restrictions. A spokesperson for the association said: “Due to the royal family’s close tie with Gurkhas and the duke himself was appointed as Colonel of 7th Duke of Edinburgh’s Own Gurkha Rifles, it was important that Nepali community had organised the event to pay respect to HRH on the day of his funeral.”
He has not been officially named by police but he has been named locally as Richard Lowe. In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “The death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage, but our enquiries continue. “We are working with colleagues from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire and a cordon will remain in place while this work continues. Swindon Borough Council are also at the scene.” Other residents in the two-storey block of flats evacuated by the emergency services this morning were being accommodated at the Buckhurst Community Centre, police said.
