Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated in India on the 21st of July. The Islamic organisations in the country made this announcement a few weeks ago. Eid-ul-Adha is the second major festival celebrated by Muslims in India. The first major festival is Eid-ul-Fitr. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan during which people follow various religious practices like holy fasting. Whereas, Eid-ul-Adha which is also known as Bakra Eid or Bakrid is celebrated to conclude the annual Hajj pilgrimage made by Islamic devotees.
History of the festival:
According to Islamic beliefs, the history behind the festival dates back to when Prophet Ibrahim kept having a recurring dream of slaughtering his beloved son, Ismael so as to fulfil the wishes of God. Ibrahim realised that this was the command of God and communicated the same to his son, Ismael. Ismael, who was equally a devotee of God, agreed to sacrifice himself so that his father could comply with the wishes of God.

KARACHI: Eidul Azha, commonly known as Bakra Eid, is a great religious festival observed by Muslims all over the world as it also marks the month in which millions of Muslims converge on Makkah to perform Haj.
Unfortunately, for the last two years, the pandemic has hit this festival like everything else in the world. However, it is still observed as passionately in countries like Pakistan.
As soon as the festival nears, temporary markets to sell sacrificial animals pop up across Karachi and the rest of the country. Apart from this, other markets are also established to support the animal market which provides fodder for the animals as well as accessories for the animals.
