Two teams from the Philippines, GiveSight and World MAQI, are selected by the United States space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), European Space Agency (ESA), and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) as global finalists for the all-virtual, Earth Observation Dashboard Hackathon held last June 23-29. With 4,300+ participants from 132 countries and territories, the week-long event featured 233 projects to solve challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic using data from the Earth Observing (EO) Dashboard, an interactive data resource giving policymakers and the public a unique tool to probe the impacts of pandemic-related restriction

The Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) and the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) as part of their commitment to boost the country’s data science and analytics (DSA) ecosystem, the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) said on Friday, June 25.

The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) has creatively enticed Filipinos who wish to learn data science and analytics to be part of its Smarter Philippines through Data Analytics, Research and Development, Training and Adoption (SPARTA) program.

The DOST-PCIEERD extended its felicitations to the newly crowned Miss Universe and at the time, campaigned for its project, which seeks to upgrade the skills of an initial 30,000 workers in data science, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and other related fields by 2022.
