The Opioid Crisis Effect on Families: Playreading & Community Discussion on May 20

PORTSMOUTH – On Thursday, May 20 at 7 p.m., Seacoast Mental Health Center and New Hampshire Theatre Project will present a reading of the play A Wider Circle by Mary Ellen Hedrick, and a community discussion on the topic of The Opioid Crisis Effect on Families. The zoom webinar is free, but registration is required. This program is part of New Hampshire Theatre Project’s Elephant-in-the-Room Series. Partial funding for this presentation has been provided by an Arts in Healthcare Grant from the N.H. State Council on the Arts.
Immediately following the reading of A Wider Circle, facilitator Tim Barretto will lead a community discussion with the audience and panelists Rebecca Throop of Seacoast Mental Health Center, playwright Mary Ellen Hedrick and a panel of experts. Community participants can sign up to attend the webinar and participate in the discussion for free through the NHTP website at ntheatreproject.org. ....

The New London Barn Playhouse has announced its plans for the 2021 summer season when we proudly welcome back a live audience for a Summer Under the Stars. The never-been-done-before season, starting June 29th, will take place under an open-air tent in Ivey Field on the campus of Colby-Sawyer College, located less than a mile from the Barn Playhouse. The pandemic has impacted every level of tourism in New Hampshire, from leaf peeping to dining. Visitors are faced with state regulations both in New Hampshire and often in their home state as well.
It’s because of these challenges that Lori Harnois, New Hampshire Tourism Director, says, “The Division is not forecasting travel or spending for the 2020-21 winter season. Similar to summer and fall, due to COVID-19, there are many unknowns and variables with the potential to impact visitation and visitor spending, making it difficult to project those figures.”

When it comes to the fall season, Harnois says that the data isn’t in to truly understand how New Hampshire’s tourism marketing impacted visitation. ....
