Mark C. Yanarella, a native of Naugatuck, retired from Ion Bank s Board of Directors completing a fifty-year career. Mark began his banking career in 1970 as a management trainee with Naugatuck Savings Bank, (renamed Ion Bank ).

In 1980, after holding numerous positions, he became Corporate Secretary and a member of the bank s Executive Management Team, overseeing the bank s lending function, a role he continued to play for the next 17 years. Mark was promoted to Vice President in 1983 and elected to the Boards of Directors and Corporators in 1985. He was promoted to Executive Vice President in 1990. In 1997, Mark was named President and Chief Executive Officer. He was ultimately named Chairman and CE ....

NEDC, Beacon Falls agreement on hold

NAUGATUCK A proposed agreement between the Naugatuck Economic Development Corporation and Beacon Falls is on hold.
In February, the Beacon Falls Board of Selectmen unanimously approved an agreement with the NEDC to provide economic development services for the town from March 1 through June 30. The NEDC board of directors subsequently formed a subcommittee to review and possibly propose changes to the agency’s bylaws to make sure there were no liability issues.
NEDC President Ronald Pugliese said during the NEDC’s March 22 meeting that he spoke with Beacon Falls officials and the agreement is on pause for the time being. ....

NAUGATUCK The Rosenblatts have put the “family” in family business for over 100 years a legacy that was proudly carried on by Howard “Howie” Rosenblatt.
Rosenblatt, a pillar of the Naugatuck community and owner of Rosenblatt’s Department Store on Maple Street, died Feb. 15 of cancer. He was 74.
Rosenblatt’s Department Store first opened its doors over a century ago in the Union City section of Naugatuck. A family business through and through, Howie Rosenblatt’s grandfather, Morris Rosenblatt, started the store and passed it on to his son, William Rosenblatt. ....

Beacon Falls turns to NEDC for economic development

BEACON FALLS Officials have reached an agreement with the Naugatuck Economic Development Corporation to provide economic development services to the town through the rest of this fiscal year.
The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved the agreement at its Feb. 8 meeting. The agreement still needs to be approved by the NEDC Board of Directors, which is scheduled to meet Feb. 22.
“I think it’s in our best interest as we don’t have really any economic representation right now and NEDC, from what I can tell, they should be an asset helping the town move forward and bringing further economic development to the town,” First Selectman Gerard Smith said during the meeting. ....
