Boris Johnson has been quizzed over whether he acted with honesty and integrity in his relationship with US businesswoman Jennifer Arcuri.
The prime minister gave a single word reply: Yes .
He was challenged about the issue by Huffpost Political Editor Paul Waugh at a Downing St Covid press conference.
The PM has faced renewed questions over his dealings with Ms Arcuri when he was London mayor. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
Ms Arcuri received £126,000 of public money in the form of grants for her technology business and event sponsorship. She was also given access to three foreign trade missions led by Mr Johnson. ....

Prime minister Boris Johnson has spoken in defence of senior civil servants as the Greensill Capital lobbying scandal has shone a spotlight on top officials’ second jobs as well as former PM David Cameron’s work for the firm.
Johnson said it would be wrong to conclude it was common for senior officials to have second jobs following the revelation last week that former chief commercial officer Bob Crothers was on the payroll of Greensill while he was still a civil servant. ....

UK lobbying watchdog says anomalies need to be fixed urgently

A former Conservative cabinet minister who vets ministers and mandarins’ new jobs has called for urgent reform over “anomalies” that allowed conflicts of interest in Westminster and Whitehall.
Lord Pickles, the chair of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (Acoba), told a committee of MPs he was “very worried” after Bill Crothers, a senior civil servant, was allowed to work part-time, then full-time, for the collapsed finance house Greensill Capital without being vetted.
“It also highlights a number of anomalies within the system that require, I think, immediate address,” he said.
Pickles was speaking days after his committee released an exchange of letters with Crothers that exposed the Cabinet Office’s unusual arrangement. It allowed Crothers to work for Greensill, which has now collapsed leaving thousands of jobs in the balance, while in charge of billions of pounds of taxpayers’ expenditure ....

A bid by the Conservative group at Cornwall Council to remove the leader of the council has failed.
Conservative councillors had put forward a motion to remove Julian German from office over his decision to retain deputy leader Adam Paynter after he had been sanctioned by his own Liberal Democrat party.
An extraordinary full council meeting was called this morning after the motion was tabled by Conservative group leader Linda Taylor.
The Lib Dems had considered a complaint against Cllr Paynter after he shared a confidential email sent to him by a colleague. ....
