Fire fighting equipment stolen from Merry Creek Wildfire site

by Regional District of Central Kootenay on Tuesday July 13 2021 If you see these sprinklers for private sale, please report it.  The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is asking for the public’s help in the retrieval of stolen fire fighting equipment from the Merry Creek wildfire site. On the morning of Sunday, July 11, while performing fire perimeter checks, crews became aware of critical emergency fire fighting suppression equipment that had be stolen. The theft occurred sometime between Saturday, July 10 at 7:00 pm and the early morning of Sunday, July 11. The stolen equipment, worth approximately $2,000, includes over 1,000 feet of forestry hose and six sprinklers. It had been deployed and set up to protect a home in the 500 block of Highway 3.

(Supplied by the BC Wildfire Service) The Evacuation Oder and Alert placed on 32 properties in the Castlegar area have been lifted as of 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The order was enacted on 32 properties due to the Mary Creek Wildfire by the  Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). The local State of Emergency has also been called off. “Crews have done an incredible job in containing this wildfire and minimizing damage to property,” said Nora Hannon, EOC Director and RDCK Regional Fire Chief. “With the hot weather continuing and only the beginning of wildfire season, this is a reminder to residents the importance of being careful and alert for any possible fire dangers when being outdoors.”
