Local artists beautify barricades for on-street dining Creative Portland hired the artists to create colorful covers for the metal barriers. Courtesy of Creative Portland Five local artists contributed their creativity to help beautify barricades that are being used for street closures in downtown Portland. But already, a fabric cover created by one of those artists has been stolen. Creative Portland hired the artists Angela Adams, Pam Chevez, Ebenezer Akakpo, Tamara Jones and Nora Tryon to add color, energy and messaging to the barricades, which are being used for the closures of Wharf, Dana and Milk streets, as well as a portion of Fore Street near Boothby Square. ....
The Harlow presents Art2021, their 26th Annual Juried Show Portsmouth Herald HALLOWELL – The Harlow will present Art2021, its 26th annual Juried Show on view April 23 through May 29. There will be a closing reception May 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. with an awards ceremony at 5 p.m. Eighty-one works of art by 75 artists were selected by juror Barbara Sullivan to be included. Sullivan is a painter/sculptor and installation artist living in Maine. She works in the age–old medium of fresco, which she learned when she was the head cook at The Skowhegan School of Sculpture and Painting. Someday – that elusive someday – the Portland Museum of Art will open “Untitled: Art from Maine in a Time” to the public, so people can actually see the exhibition in person and experience art in the flesh.
