Quick turnaround: From May low of 10%, worforce bounces back to 70% | Noida News

Noida: After a difficult couple of months, industrial units in the city are back on their feet with about 70% workers returning to duty.
Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ), which has 180 active units, claims to be operating with 100% attendance and some companies have also had fresh recruitments.
“After the first wave last year, there was a total lockdown. Most daily wage earners were given two months’ salary and asked to go back home. This time, several labourers left for their hometowns in March around Holi and the panchayat polls. They started returning slowly from mid-May. Many families in the villages were hit by Covid this year and workers came back to support them,” said Anil Kumar, regional manager, Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC). ....

SEZ down to 10% of workforce | Noida News

Noida: The workforce at Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) has shrunk to 5,000 from the original strength of 50,000. The city’s entrepreneurs claim that most migrant workers have left for their villages even when factories are not shut down officially. A disrupted supply chain combined with a low workforce has led to a disruption in the production cycle at the MSMEs.
Ajay Goel, president of Noida Special Economic Zone Welfare Association (NSEZWA), told TOI that even though factories have been allowed to operate amid the second wave of Covid-19, many migrant labourers have left for their home towns.
“The headcount in factories has been on a steady decline over the past few weeks. This week, we just have around 5,000 people reporting to work and even though they are coming to the factories, the workflow itself has been affected because the supply chain of raw materials stands disrupted. Most MSME owners don’t have enough raw materials to keep the production in prog ....

IT firm's cafeteria turns 40-bed Covid facility | Noida News

NOIDA: IT company Tech Mahindra has collaborated with Fortis to convert its office cafeteria into a Covid care facility, a model that other companies in Noida’s Special Economic Zone are looking to replicate at a time when an acute shortage of beds is denying treatment to many Covid patients.
There are 40 beds at the cafeteria, of which 35 are occupied. The facility is not, however, equipped to handle critical patients. It has basic medical infrastructure to help patients with mild infection recuperate in case they can’t get a hospital bed. It has been operational since April 24.
A Tech Mahindra spokesperson said, “Initially, we created this facility to help our employees and their family members, but we did not restrict ourselves and have accommodated anyone who reached out to us as information spread. We have a basic setup in place, to help people isolate and recuperate. Fortis doctors are on call and there is manageable oxygen support. It is a very small number, ....
