Archegos insolvency: Archegos prepares for insolvency as banks seek compensation: Report

Archegos Capital Management, the family office run by former Tiger Asia manager Bill Hwang, is preparing for insolvency as banks involved in financing its trades seek to recoup some of their losses, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.
Archegos has hired restructuring advisers to assess the potential legal claims from banks and to plan for a possible winding down of its operations, the report said, citing two people familiar with the matter.
The family office s meltdown was triggered after ViacomCBS , a company Archegos was heavily exposed to, announced a stock offering in March. A slump in the media company s share price alarmed the banks, which called on the fund for more collateral. ....

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has rejected a plea by film producer V. Ravichandran to dissolve the insolvency proceedings against Aascar Film Private Limited. It also dismissed another plea, seeking to stay the decision of the committee of lenders to go for liquidation.
In September 2019, the NCLT had ordered insolvency proceedings against Aascar Film in a case filed by Indian Overseas Bank for alleged non-payment of dues of about ₹116.2 crore. The loans were availed for making movie I and commitments under a one-time settlement agreement were not fulfilled, the bank said. ....

German Chancellor Angela Merkel denies lobbying for Wirecard during 2019 trip to China

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has rejected accusations that she had lobbied for the insolvent tech company Wirecard.
Merkel was summoned by a parliamentary investigation committee in Berlin after allegations that she had spoken up for Wirecard during a trip to China in 2019.
But the German Chancellor defended her comments and said the company had received no special treatment.
Merkel said Wirecard s aim of entering the Chinese market overlapped with the best interests of the German economy.
The financial services company later collapsed in an accounting scandal in June 2020, less than a year after Merkel s visit to China.
Wirecard filed for bankruptcy after admitting that €1.9 billion euros supposedly held in trust accounts in the Philippines probably didn t exist. ....
