Auckland, 21 July 2021 – Loneliness NZ is proud to be a
founding member of the Global Initiative on Loneliness and
Connection (GILC) which was launched overnight with a global
webinar. Participants were inspired by those international
leaders now placing ‘profound importance’ on addressing
loneliness and social isolation recognised as a
significant health issue for the 21st Century.
GILC is
comprised of national organizations committed to end the
pressing global issues of loneliness and social isolation.
We support the dissemination of system-wide, national
approaches to build social connection.

A more balanced, sustainable approach to consuming food from livestock one that meets nutrition needs and focuses on local production methods is essential for delivering on global commitments to combat malnutrition in all its forms

PETALING JAYA: It’s a fishy story but in the best way possible. A fish farming system that has put nutritious food on the plates of millions just earned its inventor the 2021 World Food Prize Laureate award.
Nutrition expert Dr Shakuntala Haraksingh Thilsted, a Danish citizen based in Penang, has also become the first woman of Asian heritage to be given the honour.
Developing a way to raise nutrient-rich small fish inexpensively, her work has nourished low income families in countries like Bangladesh, Cambodia, India and Malawi.
