May 11, 2021 CHARDON Marianne T. Lohrman, Warren native, left this world on Monday, May 3, 2021, and became stardust, lighting the way for her loved ones past and those to follow. She was incandescent. For 73 years, she shared her warmth, light and love. She laughed and cried with us. She created spectacular meals for us. She was a compassionate friend, incredible wife, amazing mother, proud daughter, guiding sister, talented gardener and writer, woke activist and so much more. She was born Jan. 1, 1948, in Warren to Thaddeus and Irene Was. Her dad would smile as she romped, her blonde hair bobbing in the breeze. She will always be his “Buttercup.” ....

A water-main break closed the area to traffic. Replacing the cityâs aging infrastructure is a top priority for Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz and the city has received grants to do so. NILES Big changes are in the works in the city for upgrading and maintaining infrastructure. One of the most highly spoken of topics in Niles, other than annexation, is the city’s aging infrastructure and the continued fight on neighborhood blight. At a recent city council meeting, several grants were approved for the city to seek. On top of the major investment in two 24-inch water valves valued at $200,000 per valve and $1.3 million going toward street resurfacing, the city seems to be pursuing grants to combat the issues with the old infrastructure. ....
Staff report HOWLAND Trumbull County Council of Governments is seeking grant funding to get face mask testers to be used by 20 fire departments and districts. These departments and districts are on member communities of the COG. Bazetta Trustee Ted Webb said COG at a recent meeting approved having Bazetta Fire Chief Dennis Lewis apply for the grant for the tester which checks face masks for their condition and usage. Also, COG discussed the possibility of funds for demolitions of properties in Brookfield and Vienna and the former Niles Times building in Niles. COG has provided funds for demolitions in Niles, Braceville, and West Farmington and mostly recently the Gray Wolf Tavern in Brookfield. ....
