Niles Schools meal program will continue over spring break By: Maura Johnson Each meal kit includes seven breakfasts and seven lunches. All children under 18 (or under 26 with a disability) are eligible to receive the meals for free. Children don’t need to be students in the Niles school system to receive a meal kit. Through online learning, educators are getting a glimpse of the virtual working skills that students are likely to need for the digital workplace of the future, including time management and collaboration and communication online. But it’s unclear if students in virtual or hybrid learning environments are picking up these skills during the pandemic, especially the most vulnerable kids. To make matters worse, social distancing measures have made it tough for students to find work-based learning experiences, an especially big setback for students in career and technical education programs in underserved communities who are planning to enter the workforce straight out of high school. ....
[email protected] Submitted photo Niles native Carol Ann Kauffman, retired from teaching in the Niles City School District, is the author of 26 books, including âJanuary Black Ice.â NILES Carol Ann Kauffman believes everyone should write a book. “I think there is a book in everybody, and everybody should write,” Kauffman said. “And my advice would be after you write the first book, sit down and write another.” Kauffman, who has authored 26 books since her retirement from teaching at Niles City Schools and has more in the works said there is joy and satisfaction in writing.
