- While much of the global apparel industry s attention is on sourcing leaders like China, Vietnam and Bangladesh, Turkey is showing that there is plenty of reason for brands to bet big on the countryâs manufacturing operations this year. In 2020, Turkey s apparel exports were no slouch, totaling $17.1 billion in value, according to the Istanbul Apparel Exporters Association (IHKIB). IHKIB is the leading apparel industry association in Turkey, representing nearly 66 percent of the country s apparel exports this past year, with its members accounting for $11.2 billion alone, according to IHKIB chairman Mustafa Gültepe. Gültepe says that the industry aims to build a partner chain rather than serve as a traditional supply chain for apparel partners. ....
- On Monday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of India says in her budget speech in parliament that India will impose 10% duty on cotton import to help farmers. A levy on overseas purchases will potentially support local prices amid higher domestic production and prevent distress sales by the growers. There is no duty on cotton imports until now. After our analysis, this move is mostly to digest its domestic cotton inventory, improve Indian cotton prices and reduce the loss of CCI via cotton auction. In addition, cotton imports of India have decreased apparently. In short, this move may have limited influence on global cotton liquidity and prices.ã ....
- On January 28, 2021, the Ministry of Trade of Turkey issued notice No. 2021/3 on synthetic filament fabrics (Turkish: sentetik filament iplikten dokunmu) originating in China, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan, China. It made the affirmative final decision of the third anti-dumping sunset review and decided to maintain the anti-dumping duties on the products involved in the above-mentioned countries and regions. The anti-dumping duties on CIF (CIF) are as follows: 42.44% anti-dumping duty on Chinese products whose unit weight is more than 110g/sqm, and 21.13% anti-dumping duty on Chinese products whose unit weight is less than or equal to 110g/sqm. Anti-dumping duties of 7.76%-42.44%, 14.64%-40.00%, 8.67%-30.93% and 13.91%-30.84% respectively are levied on the products involved in the case in Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan, China respectively. The announcement shall take effect from the date of announcement and shall be valid for 5 years.ã ....
