Could Emmanuel Moseley could lose his job to Ambry Thomas?

If I asked your which rookie is most likely to take a veteran’s job this season, you’d likely say Trey Lance will eventually supplant Jimmy Garoppolo as the starting quarterback. While that may be true, Lance isn’t the only rookie that could crack the starting lineup this year. On today’s Niner Nate-tion Podcast, special guest Eric Crocker says Emmanuel Moseley better start looking over his shoulder.
“Ideally they want Ambry Thomas to compete for an outside starting job. I look at Emmanuel Moseley and I don’t think his job is locked up at all. We’re talking about a guy who was really up and down last year. There were multiple games where he gave up a ton of catches. When he was back from the concussion.they were using him on special teams. They just chose not to play him. I can see Ambry Thomas competing for a starting job.” ....

49ers Podcast: The one issue with Trey Lance that scares you the most

As far as I know, there has only been one movie about the NFL Draft, and that’s
Draft Day starring Kevin Costner as the GM of the Browns. While the film itself is horrible, there is one part of it that I think applies to real life. Early in the movie, we see Costner scribble a note to himself and put it in his pocket. As the day goes on and things get crazy, we eventually see that the note was a message to Costner himself about sticking by his guns no matter what. As we inch closer to the draft, there’s a tendency to think we can make a better decision now because we have more information than we did when the evaluation process started months ago. It’s important to remember, however, that more information isn’t always better information. In today’s Niner Nate-tion Podcast, Nate Nelson and Leo Luna were joined by NFL film analyst Alex Rollins, who pointed out an obvious flaw in Lance’s film that became ev ....

NFL Podcast: What do the 49ers think is their second biggest need?

For a lot of people, the NFL Draft is a lot like Fruit Stripe gum. They love it for the first 30 seconds, and then they toss it into the trash and move on with their day. We spend endless hours talking about what each team will do on the first night of the draft, and give only a courtesy wave to the other
two days worth of draft picks. When it comes to the 49ers, Friday and Saturday’s picks aren’t as important as what happens Thursday, but they’re close.
NFL rosters are headlined by the stars but built by the solid players that come from fruitful drafts in rounds 2, 3, 4, and beyond. Those are the rounds where teams try and plug deficiencies in their roster with young, cheap talent so they don’t have to overspend in free agency (see, Alexander, Kwon). What we’ll find out over draft weekend is what the 49ers believe their second-biggest need to be. In today’s Niner Nate-tion Podcast, Nate Nelson and Leo Luna talked wi ....

49ers podcast: Are we blinded by flashy traits when drafting a QB?

There has been no shortage of takes when it comes to the 49ers’ quarterback situation and who the team should select if they decide to pick one in April’s draft. Every corner of 49ers Twitter has their guy, some even back up with film, stats, or both. In today’s Niner Nate-tion Podcast, Nate and Leo Luna were joined by former NFL QB Tim Jenkins, who says we could be looking at quarterbacks the wrong way.
“When we evaluate these guys, we overvalue traits. We see a guy who can throw it, we see a guy who is fast and we go, ‘oh my gosh, I love him.’ Do you want to move on from Jimmy G. because he can’t throw? No, the dude can rip it. If he’s in shorts and a t-shirt and he’s throwing to us, our hands hurt. That’s not what makes a quarterback great. What makes a quarterback great is processing [information].I think we’re all just too traits driven.” ....
