Govt sets mid 2022 target for Lekki port operations

The Federal Government has urged the management of Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited and other stakeholders, to work tirelessly to ensure that the port becomes operational by mid-2022.
Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, during an inspection visit to the port, expressed satisfaction with the level of progress recorded on the construction of the Lekki Deep Sea Port project.
Amaechi inspected the facility in the company of other government agencies like the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the Nigeria Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Nigerian Maritime Administrative and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
“I am very delighted and impressed with the pace and the progress of construction work on this project compared to the last time I was here in November 2020. The promoter of the project, Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited has demonstrated strong commitment and capacity to deliver the project as agreed,” he said. ....

The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, has sworn in Frank Ibezim as the Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District.
Senator Frank Ibezim will be replacing the late Benjamin Uwajumogu who died in December 2019.
In February 2020 during the valedictory speeches, the late Senator was described as an icon who had an active and impactful political life.
“Late Senator Benjamin Chukwumeka Uwajumogu was a distinguished colleague who excelled in every facet of his senatorial duties, whether to his constituency or in his committees’ duties, as well as his usually articulate contributions to Senate debates,” Senator Abdullahi said. ....

The Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and Lagos State Government, on Tuesday, disclosed plans to finally commence a three month trial on enforcement of the electronic-Call Up System from February 27, 2021, as part of measures to ensure the free flow of traffic in Apapa access port areas and environs.

Apapa gridlock: FG to deploy 200 security officers

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has completed plans to deploy 200 security officers to Apapa and Tin-Can Ports to clear the gridlock on the routes.
The security personnel are expected to ensure that no vehicle parks along the road.
Mrs Taiye Elebiyo-Edeni, media assistant to the minister, said Amaechi disclosed this during a meeting with Maritime Stakeholders and the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria in Lagos.
The union had threatened to go on strike if the government failed to address the gridlock on the route.
Amaechi, however, said that there should be a steering committee headed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, to seat monthly until the challenges were overcome. ....
