Why Lebanon’s Rafik Hariri tribunal must be funded until it completes its mandate
The STL was launched in 2009 to prosecute those behind the assassination of former prime minister Rafik Hariri

NEW YORK CITY / BEIRUT: With the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) facing a severe financial crisis and the threat of imminent shutdown, it is imperative to highlight the significance of its recent judgment and the critical importance of permitting the tribunal to complete its mandate.
Shutting down the STL now, on the eve of its second major trial, would send a wrong and dangerous message with implications for international criminal justice as a whole and especially for Lebanon. ....

ViDAR Optical Radar detects lone overboard sailor off Northern Australia - sUAS News

Melbourne, Australia, March 2021 – Sentient Vision Systems today proudly announced the crucial role that ViDAR played in the rescue of Nigel Fox by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) on 4th January 2021. Letters to the editor: 'Give us our Northallerton trees – in the ground, not in coffins'

High Street trees
I READ with great sadness of the decision by Hambleton District Council to decide against planting trees in Northallerton High Street and use planters instead due to opposition from the Showman’s Guild. “Protest as tree plans changed for planters” (D&S Times, Feb 19).
Northallerton High Street like many other high streets around the country will have to evolve from mainly retail to a blend of retail, hospitality and residential if it is to survive.
The addition of an attractive public space in the centre of the town would be a key part in this, encouraging visitors to the town which would in turn reap its own financial benefit for businesses on the High Street as well as providing an attractive multipurpose venue to host outdoor events such as music, live theatre or a host of other community events. ....

Inspired by 24 hours of clips of Christopher Plummer not actually singing “Edelweiss”, marking the actor’s death earlier this month, Stewart Wood suggested this list and nominated no 1. I excluded things people are remembered for saying that they didn’t actually say, as we have already done Misquotations and Misattributed Quotations.

Eating a hamster: Freddie Starr.
The Sun’s front page headline from 1986 dogged the late comedian for the rest of his life. He never ate or attempted to eat a friend’s hamster. The story was planted by Starr’s publicist, the late Max Clifford, to drum up publicity for a tour. To add insult to injury, Starr was a vegetarian. Thanks to David Lister. ....
