Activists, Police Agree Body Cams Are A Good Idea. Allegheny County Council Passed A Bill To Help Local Police Pay For Them

“Our hope is that the video cams will help lead to the truth in any potentially controversial stop or interaction between citizens and police officers,” Black Political Empowerment Project CEO Tim Stevens told councilors Tuesday. “Our hope is that the existence of body cams will remind officers on a daily basis … that the misuse and abuse of [their] powers might be recorded on video.”
But the cameras have gained popularity among members of law enforcement, too.
“My officers love having the body cameras,” said John Sicilia, chief of the Northern Regional Police Department and president of the Allegheny County Chiefs of Police Association. ....

Pittsburgh’s Black community is shrinking and some who remain in the city say they are fed up with generations of neglect by city officials, systematic racism and development projects that have caused departures.
Between 2014 and 2018, U.S. Census data shows, Pittsburgh’s Black population dropped by about 10% or 7,000 people.
On Wednesday, some of more than three dozen speakers at a city council hearing put voices, faces and names beside those numbers. During their allotted three minutes, they spoke, some offering support from civic organizations and other groups in the city. Even more might have talked if it weren’t for technological glitches during the virtual meeting. ....

Bishop Loran Mann, a velvet-voiced minister and founder of Pittsburgh’s Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ, is being remembered by city leaders as a monumental figure in the region’s landscape.
Mann died Sunday at the age of 74, the Pentecostal Temple Church announced Sunday.
“He had a gregarious nature and always an uplifting spirit,” Tim Stevens, chairman of the Black Political Empowerment Project (B-PEP), said. “He was one of those people that when they walked into a room, everyone took notice. He had a great smile and presence. I had hoped that my friend would have been with us for many years to come to enjoy his leadership ....

Portable vice - buying advice sought | Model Engineer

- It can be clammed to a table top (although not more than 4mm thick)
- The larger jaws still slightly small (62mm), but I can live with that.
- I still can t find any magnet soft jaws that small but hopeful I can cut some larger ones down to size.
- Occasionally specifically smaller jaws might be useful
- Build quality looks rather poor but I can live with that
- I has a nice square-ish anvil
- The faces of the larger jaws could be useful occasionally, I suppose e.g. can grip rounded items etc
- Jaws are made from hardened steel so should be quite durable (e.g. resist accidental filing/sawing etc) and obviously can be replaced if that does happen. ....

What does Britain's new Cyber Force mean for future of cyber security?

King’s College London
The National Cyber Force that Britain Needs?
Read the research
Cyber operations – or to use the pervasive but sometimes misleading phrase, “cyber attacks” – are becoming increasingly frequent across the world. The UK is not immune to this, with criminal activity, such as ransomware campaigns – as well as competition between states – posing various threats to the digital economy and international security. The new National Cyber Force (NCF) is part of the UK’s answer to these problems, consolidating its “offensive” forces in cyberspace.
What is the NCF? Does it mean that the UK is scrapping all its tanks and replacing them with popular culture’s hoody-wearing teenage hackers? No, but there are still significant changes ahead, including a transformation in force structure, dealing with legacy capabilities, and embracing new and emerging technologies. The government’s ambition is for a smaller but more capable Armed Forces ....
