Brisbane residents may experience a smoke haze for short periods over the coming weeks due to an increase in hazard reduction burns.
Queensland Rural Fire Service (RFS) Regional Manager, Tim Chittenden, said RFS crews across greater Brisbane – including the Redlands, Bribie Island and west Brisbane area – were making the most of favourable weather conditions.
“Brisbane is forecast to experience dry weather and light winds over the coming weeks, which presents the perfect window of opportunity to undertake hazard reduction burns,” he said.
“In recent years the greater Brisbane area has experienced severe bushfires, which is why bushfire prevention is crucial. ....

Workington RNLI volunteers called out after reports of kite surfer in difficulty

Workington RNLI was called out this morning to help a kite surfer after reports they had got into difficulty in the sea.
The volunteer crew assembled and launched all weather lifeboat Dorothy May White at around 11.30am.
The volunteers were alerted by Belfast Coastguard after members of the public had called with concerns that the surfer had fallen into the sea and was not able to get back on their board.
Crew spoke to the kite surfer, who was okay but having a rest.
The crew made sure he made it to the shore without incident, where Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team and Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team were waiting. ....

THE RNLI have urged the public not to go out to sea alone after it responded to reports of concern for a kite surfer.
Workington s Dorothy May White was called out by Belfast Coastguard this morning after reports the surfer was in difficulty off the West Cumbrian Coast.
Members of the public had reported concerns to the public after spotting them alone in the water.
The all weather lifeboat was launched at around 11.30am. Crew spoke to the kite surfer - who was okay but having a rest.

Cumbrian coastguard teams aid stranded dog walker

Rescue teams were called out earlier today following reports that a member of the public had been cut off by the tide on the west Cumbrian coast.
CGOC Belfast Coastguard tasked Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team, Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team and Workington Lifeboat to search for a member of the public and his pet who had been cut off by the tide.
The report was first made to Cumbria Police by the dog walker who was stuck at Harrington just before 11am.
Workington RNLI launched the John F Mortimer, its inshore lifeboat, at 11am, while Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team and Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team were dispatched to conduct a search. ....
