In a major development on May 21, Bidya Devi Bhandari, President of Nepal, at the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved the House of Representatives (HoR), and declared the dates of mid-term polls to be held on November 12 and 19 respectively, almost two years before its expiry. The decision to hold elections in November in two phases was taken as per Article 76 (7) of the Nepalese Constitution following the event in which Prime Minister Oli, the leader of the Communist Party of Nepal–Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML) failed to prove the majority in the House. PM Oli recommended House dissolution as he felt that the opposition group within his party, CPN-UML, and other parties did not allow his government to function smoothly. ....

Beijing [China], May 27 (ANI): Even after four decades of robust external economic engagement and over seven years since its flagship project Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was launched, Chinese investments in South Asia continue to generate resistance from member countries.

Massive protests broke out against dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) in Nepal against dessolution of the parliament and elections in November.

At least three cadres of Nepali Congress (NC) were detained in front of President s Office Sheetal Niwas after massive protests broke out against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) in the Himalayan nation. Demonstrators in large numbers flooded the streets as they chanted anti-government slogans against President Bidya Devi Bhandari as he dissolved the HoR the second time as per Article 76 (7) of the Constitution of Nepal and announced mid-term elections to be held between November 12 and November 19. Bhandari acted on the recommendation of Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, ANI on Sunday reported.  ....
