SE City Council tables ATV, snowmobile ordinance | News, Sports, Jobs

SLEEPY EYE Citing the need for more research, the Sleepy Eye City Council tabled an ordinance regulating ATV (all-terrain vehicles) and snowmobiles on city roads Tuesday.
Ordinance 184 would prohibit ATV or snowmobile operation on a city road except to travel from the owner’s residence or where the ATV or snowmobile is stored, in a direct route, and crossing to and from a destination, provided it is where the vehicles may be lawfully operated. The ordinance includes a 10 mph speed limit and ATVs and snowmobiles would not be driven in the city between midnight and 7 a.m. ....

The Sleepy Eye City Council held their Feb. 9 meeting by Zoom, which citizens were able to join to observe the meeting.
The council approved Mayor Wayne Pelzel’s reappointment of Alissa Groen as City Attorney and gave permission for the City Attorney to appoint Counsel in case of conflicts.
The council elected Nate Stevermer as Council President. The Council President signs some city documents and may preside in the Mayor’s absence. 
The council passed a resolution accepting six monetary donations to the Dyckman Free Library totaling $485.
A plumbing license for Jake’s Plumbing, of New Ulm, was approved. ....

SLEEPY EYE The Sleepy Eye City Council unanimously approved the reading of ordinances to sell lots in the Sleepy Hollow 5th Addition and in the Snow property Tuesday.
The city council approved:
• The first reading of Ordinance 180 to sell Lot 7, Block 4 to Greg and Deb Braulick for $32,000 was called by Councilor Gary Windschitl.
• The second reading of Ordinance 176 to sell Lot 14, Block 1 to Rod and Vickie Schumacher in the Snow First Addition came on a motion by Councilor Doug Pelzel, seconded by Councilor Nate Stevermer.
• The second reading of Ordinance 178 to sell Lots 3, 4, and 5, Sleepy Hollow Fifth Addition to John Pelzel came on Stevermer’s motion, seconded by Christina Andres. ....

2021 Sleepy Eye city budget approved at Dec. 8 city council meeting
The Sleepy Eye City Council met via Zoom on Tuesday night, Dec. 8.
The first item on the agenda was the annual Truth in Taxation hearing to present the 2021 budget prior to council final approval. City Manager Bob Elston said there were no changes from the preliminary budget the council approved in September.
The final budget reflects a spending increase of 2.31% and a tax levy increase of 6%. Elston said the difference is due to a projection that Local Government Aid (LGA) revenue that comes from the state will likely be reduced. He budgeted for a possible LGA reduction of $50,000. ....
