Whatever happened to old-fashioned exploration? 1091 has debuted the official trailer for a surfing doc titled Arc of Aleutia, directed and shot in Alaska by Chris Burkard & Ben Weiland. The film follows three famed surfers – Harrison Roach, Parker Coffin, Nate Zoller – as they travel to surf the un-surfed territory of the Aleutian Islands. That long tentacle of islands that sticks out from the southwest corner of Alaska towards Russia - those are the Aleutian Islands. Describing his experience, Coffin explains: Everything felt bigger and a little bit gnarlier up there. I couldn t believe the quality of waves, it reminded me of Hawaii, but I was in a 6 mil instead of boardshorts. On top of that, I saw some of the most beautiful sights of my entire life… Barreling waves with bald eagles and snow capped volcanos everywhere. Honestly, the Aleutian s have so much beauty and so much raw power at the same time that it really is hard to describe. Epic. Mega epic. ....

But taking a surf trip to Southern Mexico’s plethora of righthand pointbreaks between April and October is as close to a sure-thing as a surfer is likely to get. Isaac Zoller followed his brother Nate Zoller there in 2020 and stacked enough clips to spawn his own Netflix series. Instead, he settled for one badass surf edit. “It was the beginning of fall and Mexico had just lifted its travel ban,” Zoller explains. “The first swell I saw I scheduled a trip down to Puerto Escondido to chase some big walls of water on my brand-new, 8’0″ gun. Everything was booked two weeks in paradise where I would push myself and hopefully come back with some great memories and fresh footage. But 2020 had other plans. Just two days ....
