TAP operators want urgent talks on outstanding pay and other issues Article by January 22, 2021 Several operators under the Transport Augmentation Programme (TAP) this morning parked their vehicles just off the Mighty Grynner Highway to press for outstanding pay and urgent talks with Government. The operators lamented that payment is sometimes more than three months late and this has been affecting their businesses. Colvin Yarde, one Public Service Vehicle (PSV) owner told reporters: “We would like to meet with the new Minister of Transport and possibly the Prime Minister so that we can trash out these problems so that we can continue to provide a good service to the travelling public. But we cannot continue to provide a service if we are not being paid and not being paid on time.” ....
Tasker’s case adjourned Article by January 20, 2021 The extradition case against businessman Alex Theodore Tasker is an “urgent matter” but certain adjustments would have to be made given the “sensitive time” the country is currently experiencing given the COVID-19 health crisis. Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes made the comments after adjourning the case against the 60-year-old Tasker until February 11 and 16. The decision was taken following submissions by Tasker’s defence attorneys of Andrew Pilgrim Q.C. and Neville Reid and the Crown’s team of Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Aliston Seale and Senior Crown Counsel Oliver Thomas. Tasker was brought before the law court on December 28, 2020 following a request for his extradition to the United States of America to stand trial on money laundering charges. ....
Farmer Brome pays fine Article by December 22, 2020 St Lucy man Jefferson Tremayne Brome is out $500 after pleading guilty to three drug charges. Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes gave the 28-year-old from Hannays Village, 12 weeks in which to pay the fine. However, he settled the amount with the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today avoiding the alternative of 30 days in prison at Dodds. Police were conducting operations on December 18 when they turned on the beacon and siren signaling for the car which Brome was driving to pull over. However before doing so lawmen observed two containers being thrown from the vehicle. They were retrieved. ....
