Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak announced a vaccine equity initiative on Friday, citing glaring disparities in COVID vaccine distribution that are leaving underserved and at-risk populations behind.
Sisolak specifically zeroed in on Clark County while bringing up equity and fairness in vaccine allocations as a major challenge. Sisolak pointed to “alarming” data from the Southern Nevada Health District that showed working-class communities which typically see the highest case of COVID-19 having far lower vaccination rates compared to more affluent neighborhoods.
“The zip codes that continue to experience the highest number of COVID-19 cases are the same zip codes with the lowest frequency of vaccinations,” Sisolak said.
