True or out of touch? SA reacts to Mboweni saying 'R350 grant goes a long way in assisting people'

Finance minister Tito Mboweni s recent comments on the R350 distress relief social grant have received mixed reactions on social media.
During a briefing on Wednesday, Mboweni said the R350 monthly temporary grant for unemployed people will cost the government R27bn.
The grant was reinstated on Sunday and will be paid until the end of March 2022.
Mboweni said the grant goes a long way in assisting people, no matter how small it might seem.
“This money is meant to respond to the situation our people currently find themselves in,” said the minister. ....

Eligible for the R350 grant? You have to reapply from scratch

People who are eligible to receive the R350 Covid-19 social relief of distress grant are required to start the application process from scratch to receive it until March 2022, social development minister Lindiwe Zulu told eNCA on Monday.
Zulu acknowledged that while the process can take time, the department must account for the money and ensure it is only received by qualifying individuals.

Interprovincial travel for leisure may resume.
Non-essential establishments like restaurants, taverns, bars and fitness centres may be opened. These establishments will however need to close by 9pm to allow their employees and patrons to travel home before the start of the curfew.
Gatherings will be allowed but will be limited to a maximum of 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors. 
Where the venue is too small to accommodate these numbers with appropriate social distancing, then no more than 50 per cent of the capacity of the venue may be used.
