Millersburg Area Senior High School held a virtual “Prom Walk” in the school auditorium before its 2021 prom at the Ned Smith Center on Friday, May 7.
Last year, most proms were canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. This year, with schools sometimes meeting remotely, celebrations were pared down.
Students wore masks to attend the dance.

The Pennsylvania Wildlife Gala is the largest fundraiser for the Wildlife for Everyone Foundation, the conservation-focused organization based in State College. Weidensaul’s latest book, A World on the Wing: The Global Odyssey of Migratory Birds, was released at the end of March and landed on the New York Times Bestseller list in the category of Biology of Wildlife. ....

An amendment to the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing a right to a healthy environment is the call issued in a new book by Franklin Kury, who more than 50 years ago, as a newly elected Pennsylvania state senator, drafted and championed an Environmental Rights Amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution.
That amendment was enacted on Earth Day 1970 and ratified by Pennsylvania’s voters one year later. Forward-looking states like Hawaii and Montana followed suit, enacting strong environmental protections in their own state constitutions. ....

Organizations across Pennsylvania have put together events and programs for Earth Day 2021 on Thursday.
Starting at 10 a.m., First Lady Frances Wolf will welcome several Pennsylvania agencies for the annual Governor’s Residence Earth Day celebration, which this year will be held virtually. It will feature learning activities and information geared toward middle- and high-school students.
The theme will be Protecting the Environment for All Pennsylvanians, and the event will include activities from the Pennsylvania departments of Environmental Protection, Conservation and Natural Resources, Education and Agriculture, and the Pennsylvania Game Commission. ....

Pennsylvania’s Trail of the Year for 2021, the 38-mile Delaware & Hudson Trail in Lackawanna, Susquehanna and Wayne counties, will appear on many lists of prime trails this year. Tracing the former corridor of the Delaware & Hudson Railway, which primarily carried anthracite coal out of the Lackawanna Valley during the second half of the 19th century, the D&H Trail is open to motorized and non-motorized users, including walkers, bikers, equestrians as well as snowmobilers.
And, in that same vein, the Trail of the Year in 2020 was the 46-mile Ghost Town Trail in Cambria and Indiana counties as Pennsylvania’s Trail of the Year. Launched in 1994 as a 12-mile segment, Ghost Town Trail was the first trail in the state constructed with transportation enhancement funding.
