For many, the holidays are a time when the major issue with food is concern about overeating.
For others, the holidays are just like the days before and the days after, when the big issue with food and perhaps the big issue, period is worry about having enough.
One of the ways society deals with that concern is the charity system, which in Blair County, includes the Altoona Food Bank.
That organization is relocating this week from the 2100 block of Sixth Avenue to a renovated building on the 2300 block of North Branch Avenue, not far from the new home of Blair County Community Action Agency and the future location of Family Services’ homeless shelter both of which have missions that intersect with the food bank’s. ....

Christmas Eve brunch planned | News, Sports, Jobs

The Nehemiah Project will hold a free drive-thru Christmas Eve brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at The Wright Place for Kids, 1809 11th St., Altoona.
Recipients may receive up to eight meals per vehicle with volunteers planning to distribute 600 meals on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Nehemiah Project is a broad, faith-based community development organization committed to assisting underprivileged and blighted neighborhoods with services designed to enhance the residents and their community environment.
