(Op-Ed, April 6), performs an excellent service in pointing out the grave damage done to our oceans, fisheries and human health by the disposal and degradation from the enormous and unnecessary use of plastics for packaging by Amazon and others.
An extensive study of the plastics’ effect on climate change by the Center for International Environmental Law concludes that by 2030 “greenhouse gas emissions from the plastic life cycle … could reach 1.34 gigatons per year equivalent to the emissions released by more than 295 new 500-megawatt coal-fired power plants.” ....

Malaysia has sent back over 200 containers of illegal plastic trash

Malaysia has sent 267 containers of illegal plastic waste back to the countries where they came from them since 2019 and the country in the process of returning another 81, according to Reuters.
Why it matters: Malaysia became the main importer of recyclable plastic after China banned imports of plastic waste in 2018. Malaysia has grappled with how to manage a growing amount of unlicensed shipments of unrecyclable trash.

This biodegradable faux fur is made from cannabis plants

In Kyiv, Ukraine, design company DevoHome has created a faux fur alternative that is made from hemp.
The fabric is woven using hemp fibres and viscose with a cotton base making it both animal and plastic-free. The plants are also grown organically without pesticides and herbicides.
The whole world is protesting against animal fur and then started protesting against synthetic fur, which is made of chemical and petroleum products. So, by creating plant-based fur, we solve all these issues with animal and synthetic fur, she says.
It differs from synthetic fur, it s very simple, it s just plant-based, it s biodegradable. So, this latest fur has even the base of it is cotton. You can also dig it under the ground, and it will biodegrade by itself quite soon. ....
