Sunderland Civic Centre AN arts centre was delighted to be part of World Book Night. Greenfield Arts, Newton Aycliffe, took part on World Book Night on Friday April 23 to celebrate creativity and inspire a love of reading. The annual celebration of books and reading that brings people from all backgrounds together to inspire others to read more. This year the organisation is celebrating its 10th anniversary and allocated copies of a special publication Stories to Make You Smile to bring happiness and inspiration to others. The book is a collection of warm hearted and funny stories from many well-known comedians and writers such as Jenny Éclair, Mark Watson and Richard Madeley. ....
50th birthday celebrations at Market Rasen Library EMN-210421-162502001 Known for their community celebration events, library staff were looking forward to marking the milestone with all their customers, but covid restrictions meant it wasn’t possible. However, undeterred, they rewarded every visitor on April 21 with a cupcake, baked by manager Georgina Carr and staff member Ann Middleton. Georgina said: “It has been lovely to welcome people back into the library where we have been serving the community for the past 50 years. Julie Lambie from MRAG collected the books from the library. “People have been sharing their memories – some remembering coming to the library as children and others their fond memories of previous library staff, such as Pam Islip, whose name has come up a number of times.” ....

The purpose of World Book Night is to encourage adults to read. It was inspired by World Book Day, which celebrates children reading in the United Kingdom and Ireland. In 2013, the World Book Night became part of The Reading Agency, an organization that aids reading programs. World Reading Night was first celebrated in the United States in 2013. ....
ZAGREB, 20 April (Hina) – The Croatian Culture and Media Ministry on Monday announced the 10th Book Night, to be held on Friday, 23 April, as one of the activities planned for this year, which has been declared a Year of Reading. Culture and Media Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek said at a news conference that dedicating the year 2021 to reading was part of the national strategy promoting reading, which had gained special importance in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, when organising cultural events involving a large number of participants had become impossible. It was therefore only natural to dedicate this year to reading, “an activity that we associate with our intimate space, that does not jeopardise anyone and that enriches everyone involved in it,” she said. ....
Celebrating World Book Night with Stories to Make You Smile 20/04/2021 Cumbria Libraries will be distributing 160 copies of a book to local charities and organisations to inspire the people of Cumbria to discover, or rediscover, the joy of reading. Stories to Make You Smile – a selection of feelgood stories written by authors including Jenny Ãclair, Katie Fforde, Veronica Henry and Rachel Hore, will be provided to Cumbria Libraries from World Book Night organisers.
