Airbnb hosts call for punishments for unruly guests

Party s over: Airbnb execs in Noosa to talk local laws

Premium Content Subscriber only Airbnb executives will be in Noosa next week to highlight their concerns with the controversial proposed rules for holiday homes and units. Noosa Council is calling for public comments on a draft strategy aimed at cracking down on the short stay accommodation industry. It proposes new rules for property owners including that they apply for annual registration, keep a record of complaints and have a manager who lives within 20 minutes of the home or unit. Airbnb Australia head of public policy Derek Nolan said he looked forward to hearing from hosts during a meeting on Monday about how it would impact them.

Mayor rates council a 10 but community wants more gains

Cr Stewart, who has never held previous public office, narrowly deposed incumbent Tony Wellington for the top job, largely on her new broom approach and a promise to listen and respond more to community and business needs. Not a woman in sight – the first Noosa Shire Council in 1910 was as blokey as they come. This was after the Wellington Council had become tainted with the jailing of long-serving councillor Frank Pardon and the public outrage that erupted around former councillor Jess Glasgow s behaviour on TV reality show The Bachelorette. Mr Pardon, who has since lost his appeal on historical charges of indecent treatment of a child, was forced to resign while Mr Glasgow failed to win re-election last March.

Noosa Tri still in limbo as council review delayed

Entries usually go on sale in late October/early November. In 2017, places for the epic Olympic distance swim, run, cycle sold out in less than 10 hours. Diehard Noosa triathletes who along with supporters annually pump millions of dollars into the Sunshine Coast economy have been unable to enter the 2021 Tri.   It is such an important decision that has implications across the shire, Cr Stewart said. Councillors highly value the views of residents and stakeholders, which is why we plan to consult the broader community. An update report was due in February, but will be deferred to allow this consultation to take place.
