On a mild morning in mid-March, a steady stream of cars carrying teachers, health care workers and grandparents rolled through the parking lot of Ellis Davis Field House in southern Dallas County.
Lisa Wheeler, a Parkland Health & Hospital System nurse, was at the other end of the parking lot, dressed in her uniform blue scrubs, face mask and shield. She met each person who rolled down a window or opened a car door with a fresh sense of optimism.
Her smile concealed, Wheeler tried to express with her eyes how happy she was to be there.
“I feel like there is hope now,” Wheeler said.
Some Dallas seniors could start getting COVID vaccines at home next week
Homebound residents in the Meals on Wheels program will be eligible to receive Johnson & Johnson vaccines starting Tuesday.

A program to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to adults with disabilities and elderly residents who can’t physically leave their homes is expanding to Dallas on Tuesday, according to the city.
Staff with Dallas Fire-Rescue and the Visiting Nurse Association of Texas will provide one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines to homebound
residents in the Meals on Wheels program.
The study went on for 40 years before it was made public in the 1970’s.
Price said this situation is entirely different. Everyone is receiving the same treatment, regardless of race. And vaccinations are necessary to protect everyone.
“This is about a community. You can t deal with herd immunity if in fact you are going to be part of the hold out,” Price said. “You owe it to the family to get yourself inoculated so we as a community, not just your personal community, but we as a community are better.” Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price received his COVID-19 vaccination Monday morning and is in high hopes doing so will encourage others in Black and minority communities to do the same thing.
