On a mild morning in mid-March, a steady stream of cars carrying teachers, health care workers and grandparents rolled through the parking lot of Ellis Davis Field House in southern Dallas County.
Lisa Wheeler, a Parkland Health & Hospital System nurse, was at the other end of the parking lot, dressed in her uniform blue scrubs, face mask and shield. She met each person who rolled down a window or opened a car door with a fresh sense of optimism.
Her smile concealed, Wheeler tried to express with her eyes how happy she was to be there.
“I feel like there is hope now,” Wheeler said.
Dallas County reports 21 coronavirus deaths, 557 cases on anniversary of its first reported COVID-19 case
The Texas Department of State Health Services also announced that people 50 and older will be eligible for the vaccine starting March 15. to include state data.
Dallas County added 21 more COVID-19 deaths and 557 new coronavirus cases Wednesday, one year after the county reported its first positive case of the virus.
The latest victims were in their 50s and older and include 16 men and five women. Eight were from Dallas, five from Garland, two each from Balch Springs and Mesquite, and one each from Combine, Farmers Branch, Richardson and Sunnyvale. All had underlying health conditions.
