SHOP bosses have unveiled plans for a new £700,000 Co-op superstore in Gourock. The company wants to close its current outlets on Cardwell Road and Shore Street and move onto the site of the Fishertrucks business. Under the plan the Co-op would bulldoze and clear that site to make way for the new two storey building and a car park with 20 spaces. A Co-op spokeswoman said: The large development will have a sales area of 4,300 sq ft and would replace the two existing stores in the town, combining them into one store with a large car park for customers and staff, a facility currently unavailable at the existing stores. ....

Rockhampton Regional Council has confirmed that its position on acquiring the northern suburbs of Glenlee, Glendale and Rockyview remains unchanged. The Local Government Change Commissioner wrote to the council last month for an update on its position on the review, given there is a new mayor. New mayor Tony Williams remains of the same view that the northern suburbs, currently part of Livingstone Shire, should be amalgamated into Rockhampton Regional Council’s boundaries. “As some time have passed since the referral was received, I wanted to take this opportunity to confirm the official position of the newly formed Rockhampton Regional Council regarding the proposed change. I have also contacted the Livingstone Shire Council to seek their views regarding the proposed boundary change,” the Change Commissioner wrote in the letter. ....

Division 3 As I sit and glance though the candidates for Division 3, I notice one glaring issue – where are all the younger candidates from the Mayoral race? I only see one that had the drive to stand again and that is Christian Shepherd. This is an opportunity we have not had for 20 years, to put a young person on the council. The last young person was Neil Fisher and before him Jim Webber or so I’m told. That is a long period of time for a major section of our community to go unrepresented. Because no matter how liberal or open minded you think you are, once you go over a certain age, you do lose touch with the younger generation. ....
