Pakistani-American physicians express solidarity with people of India

BOSTON: Pakistan-origin physicians based in the USA have expressed solidarity with colleagues and the people of India at this time of crisis catalysed by the coronavirus pandemic.
“We stand in solidarity with the people of India as they face the needless tragedies catalysed by the coronavirus pandemic,” says a statement by the Association of Pakistani Physicians of New England (APPNE), which represents over 350 medical practitioners.
Singer Arieb Azhar is among the many Pakistanis who has endorsed the American-Pakistani physicians’ statement. “Many of us are helping them (the people of India) through various means, while physicians among us regularly extend pro bono telemedical help to colleagues and patients in India,” says the statement. ....

PESHAWAR: The president of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani descent of North America (APPNA), Dr Rizwan Khalid, termed it an historic moment when its council voted last weekend to certify the newly-formed Bolan Medical College Alumni Association of North America (BMCAANA) as one of its component society.
“After more than 40 years of its existence, APPNA now truly has representation from all of Pakistan,” Dr Rizwan Khalid pointed out.
APPNA was formed in 1978 by five Alumni Associations of Pakistani Medical Colleges.
These were the Dow Medical Graduates Alumni Association of North America, the Khyber Medical College Alumni Association of North America, the King Edwards Medical College Alumni Association of North America, Liaquat Medical College Alumni Association and Nishtar Medical College Alumni Association of North America. ....

Castiel was part of an American effort called Operation Peter Pan to get Cuban children out of a nation in upheaval during the early days of the Fidel Castro regime. Knowing no English, they first stayed with a foster family in Miami before moving to the Los Angeles area, where Castiel was later joined four months later by her parents.
It’s an experience Castiel uses to this day to shape her work as Worcester’s health and human services commissioner, a position whose importance could hardly be any more important during a public health crisis that’s killed more than 400 Worcester residents. ....
