Self-portraits by Vincent van Gogh will be on display in London next year, in what organizers claim will be the first exhibition dedicated to the Dutch post-Impressionist artist’s portrayals of himself.
The Courtauld Gallery will host the exhibition beginning in February, with works ranging from “Self-Portrait with a Dark Felt Hat,” painted in 1886 in Paris, to “Self-Portrait with a Palette,” painted in a hospital in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, southern France, in September 1889.
The following year, he died. The well-known “Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear,” which van Gogh painted in 1889 after cutting off most of his ear, will be on display alongside other paintings as part of The Courtauld collection. ....
