Rape alleged over 2019 incident
SEVIERVILLE — A Sharps Chapel man has been charged with rape over an alleged 2019 incident involving a minor in Sevier County.
Sixty-two-year-old Charles Stuart Cavanaugh was being held in the Sevier County Jail Wednesday in lieu of $100,000 bond.
Cavanaugh was charged through a sealed presentment, which does not offer additional details on the allegations.
Glades Road to be reduced to one lane after 8 a.m. Thursday
GATLINBURG —The 600 block of Glades Road will be reduced to one lane after 8 a.m. on Thursday.
Glades Road will be reduced to one lane with traffic control in this area as crews perform work in the roadway. The work is expected to start at approximately 8 a.m. and is expected to be complete by the end of the day. The City urges motorists to exercise caution when traveling through the construction zone to protect the safety of the workers. ....

Carl Hatcher Furniture celebrating 50 years


SEVIERVILLE — For half a century furniture shoppers have made their way to downtown Sevierville to purchase a variety of decor to make their homes more livable.
Carl Hatcher Furniture on Court Avenue is celebrating 50 years of service in 2021. The store is currently owned by Carl Hatcher’s daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Marty Duncan.
Carl Hatcher started the store with his wife, Lucille, but was already in the furniture business with his brother prior to its opening.
“Carl’s brother, Rube, started Hatcher Furniture, and then it became Hatcher Brothers in the 60s,” Marty Duncan said. “In 1970 they split, so in 1971 you had Carl Hatcher Furniture, and that was at this same location.” ....
