Teen who punched doctor at Gore Hospital is sentenced

Defence lawyer John Fraser said Brown had no recollection of the hospital incident. “He realises it was an absolute silly, stupid act,” Fraser said. Judge Bernadette Farnan sentenced Brown to six months’ community detention and nine months’ intensive supervision with a daily curfew, ordered him to pay $738 for Mann’s broken glasses and disqualified him from driving for four months. Because of a broken ankle Brown could not do community work, so Judge Farnan ordered him to make a $250 donation to a driving offenders course, and Brown would also have to do a drug and alcohol assessment as directed by probation.

Man jailed for indecent act in library has sentenced reduced

The Court of Appeal has found a sentence an Invercargill man was given was manifestly excessive. A man jailed for doing an indecent act at the Invercargill Public Library has had his sentenced reduced. Michael Lawrence Williams, 35, was sentenced to two years and 10 months’ jail in March last year when he appeared in the Invercargill District Court on two charges of committing an indecent act, one of wilful trespass and three charges of perverting the course of justice. The library incident happened on May 30, 2017, when seminal fluid was found on a cushion and DNA testing later determined it belonged to Williams.
