CLEVELAND, Ohio A divided federal appeals court Tuesday upheld an Ohio law that punishes doctors who perform abortions because women fear their children could be born with Down syndrome.
The 6th U.S. Court of Appeals overturned a decision by U.S. District Judge Timothy Black, who had placed an injunction on the law passed in 2017. The decision means doctors could face felony charges and the loss of their medical license for violating the law.
The ruling stems from a lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood and Preterm-Cleveland, which challenged the law. It is unclear whether abortion-rights advocates will appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court. ....
